The advanced students of the Mariachi Academy are selected to participate in the Mariachi Colonial. In 2011, the Mariachi Academy was the recipient of a generous grant from the Napier Foundation. This gift was vital to our fledgling organization and enabled the Academy to expand and progress into a stable student ensemble dedicated to the performance of the traditional and authentic Mariachi repertoire.

During the past three years, the Mariachi has been invited to perform in concerts locally, throughout the state and in New York City. Some performances include the Student Showcase concert at the Woolsey Hall Rotunda prior to a March, 2013 New Haven Symphony concert.  The Mariachi Academy performed the opening of the New Haven Symphony Summer Concert at the Schubert Theatre in July, 2013 and at the Fiesta Latina presented by Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History in August, 2014.

In October 2014, MAC performed in the Woolsey Hall at Yale University on opening night of the 2014-2015 season of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and opened a gala concert by the Villalobos Brothers at the Paul Mellon Arts Center. MAC did also perform at the Hartford Riverfront Latin Music Festival in September, 2013 and played for Archbishop Mansell at the Mass celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Hartford Cathedral of St. Joseph in December, 2013.
